Our Programs

Recovery & Counseling

counselling

We champion recovery through AA meetings, counseling and a live-in treatment center,  Kuyumba House. Anchored in God’s truth and grace, we support individuals overcoming addiction as they renew their minds, rebuild their lives, and thrive through the support of a sober community.

Family & Discipleship

doreenvisits

We strengthen women, children, and families affected by substance abuse and domestic violence through compassionate care and community-based programs. We equip them with life skills, spiritual guidance, and mentorship to restore hope and offer lasting life change.

Community Support

communitymeetings 1320x880

The launch of a community mill, New Horizon Milling, will soon provide both a vital source of income to our work as well as jobs for young men coming out of addiction. The mill will provide food in an area where resources are often scarce,  providing sustainable support.

African Shade Team

Tom & Heath Havlick, Advisory Committee

Heath has cared for the poor in a variety of ways since childhood, currently serving as an adult literacy tutor and helping distribute food to those in need through her church. Her strong compassion for the overlooked, combined with a desire to see lives transformed by God’s love, aligns deeply with the mission of African SHADE and its focus on restoration.

Mark & Terri Toback, Advisory Committee

Over the years, Mark and Terri have remained closely connected to the heart and mission of African SHADE, offering steady guidance and encouragement as the vision has grown. Their strong foundation of faith, combined with practical wisdom, has helped shape the direction of the ministry, ensuring both spiritual values and operational decisions remain aligned.

Lena and Kathleen Founders

While working together at a drug and alcohol treatment center in Santa Cruz, California—walking alongside individuals affected by substance abuse, trauma, and brokenness—Lena and Kathleen discovered a shared calling and a growing passion for Africa. Out of this—African Shade dedicated to restoring lives affected by substance abuse and domestic violence was born.
